Are you a tenant in Western Australia struggling with rising electricity bills? You might be eligible for valuable financial support through the Energy Concession Extension Scheme (ECES). Administered by RevenueWA, this scheme provides annual subsidies, including the Energy Assistance Payment (EAP), to eligible households.

Here’s how you can benefit:

Household Electricity Credit:

Eligible households can receive a $700 credit to help with their electricity costs. Here’s a breakdown of how to claim it:

  • Already registered by 17 June 2024? Great news! No action is required from your side. The $700 credit will be automatically paid directly into your nominated bank account.
  • Eligible but not registered by 17 June 2024? Don’t worry, you still have time! Make sure to register for ECES by 30 November 2024 and submit a copy of your electricity invoice(s) from 17 June 2024 onwards. Once registered, your credit will be processed.
  • Became eligible after 17 June 2024? You’ll need to apply separately to claim the $700 credit.

Who is eligible for the Energy Assistance Payment?

To qualify for the EAP, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Residency: You must reside in a property where your electricity costs are billed by a supplier other than Synergy, Horizon Power, BHP, or Rio Tinto.
  • Concession Card: You must hold an eligible concession card. This includes:
    • Pensioner Concession Card
    • Health Care Card
    • Commonwealth Seniors Health Card
    • Department of Veterans’ Affairs Gold Card
    • Note: A WA Seniors Card does not qualify.
  • Tenancy: As a tenant, you must have been living in your current rental property for at least three months or have a lease agreement with a minimum term of three months.
  • Electricity Billing: Your electricity costs must be based on your actual usage or reasonable estimates, not bundled or nominal charges included in your rent.

Important Notes:

  • If you are directly billed by Synergy, Horizon Power, BHP, or Rio Tinto, contact your provider directly to discuss potential concessions or rebates.
  • It’s essential to gather all necessary documentation, including your concession card, lease agreement, and electricity invoices, to ensure a smooth application process.
